THE OLD PARSONAGE IN MEVAGISSEY

“At the beach, life is different. Time doesn’t move hour-by-hour, but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides and follow the sun.” Set in the picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey, The Old Parsonage is a family-run guest house. The charming building dates back to the mid-19th century and has 5 beautiful cosy guest bedrooms, 4 are en-suite and one with a private bathroom. The house is located only moments from the heart of the village, with its harbour, shops, restaurants and pubs. The Old Parsonage is well placed to visit Cornwall’s famous beaches, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, historic houses and gardens, the Eden Project, dramatic coastline and, Cornish villages. Take a glorious walk, enjoy the popular cycle route or hire a boat. Whatever time of year you choose to visit, whether during the busy summer season or in the crisp winter months. A bit about us

About Us

Our story started when we met in 2009. From the beginning we shared a passion for good food, music, travel and being by the sea, and would take every opportunity to feel the sand between our toes. We were both working for big companies in London when our lives changed with the arrival of our first daughter,  Amelia. This triggered the idea about running our own business and a different lifestyle which would give us more time as a family. I dreamt about running a little B&B by the sea, to have a home full of happy guests, to make them feel at home, where there is always a comfortable bed, freshly cooked food, homemade cakes, lots of books and music. By the time our second daughter, Olivia, arrived I had persuaded Tim that running a B&B by the sea could be our future. We both worked with clients in catering, facilities and hotels and wanted to put our skills to good use.

We think that the South West is the best holiday destination in the UK and Cornwall has always had a magnetic pull on us.

So we decided that if we were going to change our life style and make our dream come true we would move to our dream location. Cornwall for us has a strong sense of community where people value each other, where the sea turns turquoise in the sun, with the most beautiful beaches, dramatic cliff walks, amazing restaurants, quirky pubs, quaint little narrow streets, a dynamic art scene, fishermen’s cottages, captivating fishing harbours, superb surf beaches, tremendous history, Cornish pasties, cream teas…. the list goes on and on.

We came to Cornwall at the beginning of June 2015 to view properties. We arrived at Mevagissey at 8 am on a beautiful, sunny, warm morning and with the house viewing booked for 10 am, we went for a walk. We had never been to this village and we were surprised how beautiful Mevagissey was and wondered why we had never come here before.

This Little Cornish village had everything that we wanted and more. The house we fell in love with was built in 1855 for John Sampson Jago, a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. In the 1930s is was acquired by the St Peter’s Church and served as the vicarage until 1998. The Old Parsonage is the type of house which gives you a warm hug when you walk through the front door. After a few months of researching and building business plans we put our house in London on the market.

In March 2016 we were lucky to pick up the keys to our stunning 19th century house in the picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey.

When we moved in we decided that we would like to get to know the house first before carrying out any renovations. The house was in a good condition so when we moved we painted a few walls, and added some touches of home. We also soundproofed our top floor so guests can enjoy some peace and quiet. After an amazing first season we were ready to start to put our own stamp on the property. We started the renovation in November 2016 and it took us almost 5 months to finish it. We rewired the house, put soundproofing in the walls and floors, moved some walls, put a new en-suite bathroom in one of the rooms, brought back some original features, chose beautiful (in our opinion) wallpaper and furniture to create the kind of place we were dreaming about. There is always room for improvement and we will be working each year to make our home more “us”, more comfortable and guest friendly.

We hope to welcome you soon in our home!

The house age, layout and room styles are not particularly child or family friendly so we are currently not accepting children or young adults under the age of 18.
